About the podcast
Cultural Broker is a podcast about bridging cultures, systems, and lived experiences — because cultural misunderstanding is not just a communication issue, it creates real harm.
When culture is ignored or misunderstood, the consequences show up as health disparities, poverty, social isolation, discrimination, and loss of trust in public systems.
Hosted by Fartun Weli, a public health educator and cultural broker, this podcast explores how immigrant and refugee communities — particularly Somali and African communities — navigate healthcare, education, housing, and government systems that were not designed with them in mind.
Rooted in lived experience and professional practice, Cultural Broker centers cultural humility, trauma-informed approaches, faith, family, and the unspoken rules that shape outcomes on both sides of the system.
